I Look Under the Bed spans images from the 70’s to just recently. I always thought that my projects were completely unrelated one to the next, but as I began to look through the archive I realized there exists a common thread of experimentation with light, humor and absurdity.
In many of these photographs my family, my friends and I perform for the camera. In many cases, these are the overlooked images from various projects - completed, abandoned and recently combined. The wedding party running toward the camera is based on a news photograph of Palestinians running through the street carrying a wounded boy. Other photographs are based on found thrift shop snapshots. What I like most about this series is that it’s not so serious. After photographing and interviewing veterans returned from war, I wanted to celebrate life and play.
